The Second Joint Technical Committee on Natural Slopes and Landslides (JTC1) of Federation of International Geo-engineering Societies (FedIGS), which is the alliance of the learned societies the International Society for Soil
Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM), and the International
Association for Engineering Geology (IAEG) is delighted to invite you to join us at the Second JTC1
Workshop on Triggering and Propagation of Rapid Flow-like Landslides to be held in Hong Kong on 3 to 5 December 2018.
The aim of the Workshop is to promote discussion on the following topics:
- Improved understanding in triggering, mechanisms and runout of rapid flow-like landslides, including physical testing and numerical modelling
- Advances in risk management and mitigation of rapid flow-like landslides
- Diagnosis of notable case histories of rapid flow-like landslides
- Potential impact of climate change on initiation and propagation of rapid flow-like landslides
Selected highlights of the workshop:
Hutchinson lecture by Dr Núria Mercè Pinyol Puigmartí from the Centre Internacional de Mètodes Numèrics en Enginyeria (CIMNE), Spain
Benchmarking exercise for landslide runout analysis
Invited lectures by emerging talents
In addition, the workshop will include a benchmarking exercise for landslide runout analysis.
Authors are invited to submit (maximum 4 pages) an extended abstract.
Papers can only be accepted on the understanding that they will be presented at the workshop if selected by the Scientific Sub-Committee.
The Organising Committee plans to publish a Special Issue in a relevant journal. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit a full manuscript for consideration of journal publication.
